]]>Tokyo Street Theatre (2019 - 2020)
Tokyo is among the largest megalopolises on earth. Basically it's a sleek business and governance city, but it really comes alive at night in these gritty back alleys and underpasses.

]]>Street Metaphysics (2016-2021)
Images witnessing fleeting moments of people in relation to their environment. They stretch our perception of time and challenge the way we observe the properties of objects. They ask metaphysical questions by the means of photography. I've also published a monograph of a selection of these images. You can buy the book though the Awards|Publications section on the main page.

]]>City Code (2015 - 2020)
In the night residential blocks and skyscrapers form amazing sea of lights. This series of photographs isolates the countless windows shining in the middle of darkness making them almost pure abstracts. Cities are a universe by themselves. Each building, each window and the residents inside write a unique varying code to the dark sky. These single exposure images have been photographed at night in Tokyo, New York and Helsinki.

Minimalistic and graphical still life studies of weeds in snow photographed in Sipoo, Finland during 2018 and 2019. In Finnish these plants are called "Talventörröttäjät" (herbaceous winter seeders).

Skate Calligraphy (2018)

]]>Skate Calligraphy
A series of abstract images created by photographing tracks of ice skaters on the surface of a frozen pond in Espoo, Finland.
It's actually quite rare that there are conditions that make it possible to shoot these kind of images. On this particular winter morning the pond had just frozen making the ice look completely black against the dark water underneath. A small amount of snow had fallen on the surface of the pond and some ice skaters had left clear traces there. I found the figures there very intriguing and started to look for interesting compositions with my camera.
The results ended up looking very much like some sort of calligraphy maybe bearing most resemblance to the old Islamic calligraphy. I hope you enjoy these abstractions.

Floating City (2016-2017)

fineartphotoshots@yahoo.com (Vesa Pihanurmi | Photography) — Sun, 31 Dec 2017 12:51:30 GMT

]]>Floating City (2016 - 2017)
These architectural abstractions extract the images of the buildings out of their real world surroundings and place them upon abstract art context. This makes us pay attention to the details, colors and geometry of the architecture on a completely different way. The images turn into a mixture or metamorphosis of architecture, photography, contemporary design and abstract art.

This series is called "Floating City" according to one of the nicknames of Venice where these images were photographed. The series was awarded 1st Prize under architecture category in 2017 International Photography Awards (IPA 2017).
